UNITED NATIONS, February 09 (KUNA) -- His Highness the Prime Minister of Kuwait Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah arrived in New York early Saturday, where he will be heading his country`s delegation to the 63rd UN General Assembly meeting next week.
His Highness Sheikh Nasser was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Dr. Mohammad Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah and a large delegation.
He was welcomed by Kuwait`s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Abdullah Al-Murad and members of the Kuwaiti mission to the UN.
His Highness Sheikh Nasser arrived from Washington, where he had met with US President George W. Bush to discuss bilateral relations and international affairs.
He also met in Washington with top officials of the US Administration.
The Kuwaiti Premier will also be taking part next week in a roundtable discussion headed by Slovenian President Danilo Turk on education and health, two of the most important Millennium Goals.
Speaking to KUNA, Ambassador Al-Murad said that it was "a great success for Kuwaiti diplomacy" for His Highness the Prime Minister to participate in high-level events on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, noting that many heads of state and government attend these activities

He said His Highness the Prime Minister would be addressing the UN General Assembly in Thursday, and his speech would reflect Kuwait`s stances on international issues and important topics listed on the General Assembly`s agenda, especially in relation to development and other issues that had been raised by member states.
Moreover, he said His Highness the Premier would be meeting with a number of heads of state and government while in New York to discuss bilateral relations, as well as regional and international affairs.
Asked about US-Russian tension over Georgia and whether this would have an impact on the meeting, Al-Murad said that the UN grouped 192 member states and was thus "everyone`s home," noting that the main role of the organization was to resolve international conflicts through peaceful means and to maintain international peace and security.
He hoped that this method of resolving international crises would continue and that a positive atmosphere would prevail, adding, "I believe that it is time for the UN to play a more effective role in maintaining international peace and security, and in boosting development and achieving the Millennium Goals
