Emergency parliament session on September 10 to discuss foreign workers issue

KUWAIT, September 07 (KUNA) -- Parliament Speaker Jassim al Kharafi announced on Wednesday that an emergency session would be convened on September 10 to discuss the situation of foreign workers in the country.
Speaking to KUNA, Kharafi said he had received a request from a number of lawmakers to hold the session. Therefore measures would be arranged tomorrow to hold the session, he said, adding that the government would be informed and invitations would be sent for the members of parlaiment.
At least 35 members of parliament earlier in the day presented a request for an emergency session to review the foreign workers` strikes which took place few weeks ago.
In their request, the lawmakers expressed fear that the strikes would be repeated, noting that causes that led to the protests remained and radical solutions were necessary.
The 50-member parliament is currently on its annual summer recess.
